What is a computer without software? Not much is the answer. Computers are composed of components be it a microchip or a cooling fan. What makes the computer useful to the human is the software that is installed on it. The hardware components of the computer allow the software to work and the primary software of the computer is the operating system. The operating system is the software that communicates with the hardware allow it to be usable and useful to the human.
Now for most of us non over sized white cloak wearing people what makes the computer sense is the applications that can be used with it, namely application software.
Traditionally software that could be installed and run on a computer was purchased of the shelf and came boxed with an installation CD. Applications were obviously of various types ranging from word processing to games. As things progressed an abundant array of software became available. Computer enthusiasts were managing their own bud gets, design students began pimping images and children learnt how to create games. All of this from packaged software.
With the advent of the internet and its accessibility to a large number of homes, downloading became the hobby of the day. Much of this downloading was audio and video content. However, piracy developed on the web and large selections of commercial software was available for illegal downloading if you knew how.
By the end of the first decade of the 21st century large commercial software producers joined the downloading revolution. Software applications no longer needed to be purchased in store, they could be bought online and installed directly on a computer via the download file.
This was an excellent innovation, no cuing in stores waiting to be told by assistant that your sort after software that you had waiting months for was sold out, arrh! Just registering with the site, enter payment details and click.
So was that all? No! The demise of the naughties has seen the demise of the CD,DVD, boxed soft ware and in fact the installation file too. Traditional software being installed on computers with hundreds of gigabytes of data seems to be a dying art. With social networking being a path to civilisation in recent times software being web based only has gone towards that enlighten route too.
A computer user can now create word and spreadsheet documents by using online applications for free. Accounting software, photo editing the list goes on. The way forward is the sky or the cloud as it is now being refereed to. Not only will our social lives be online but our commercial and domestic productivity too. Large well known brands have even released computers that solely rely on web based applications and have no storage media per say.
One such company that has benefited from web technology and has its product as a complete web based system is RemitONE. RemitONE are helping the global remittance industry operate through it's money transfer software.
